Apply for an occasional licence to sell alcohol

An occasional licence allows the sale of alcohol from an unlicensed premises for up to 14 days. It's a criminal offence to sell alcohol without the relevant licence. An occasional licence is needed for events like dances, wedding receptions, and beer tents at a larger events like galas and music festivals.

You can apply for an occasional licence if you're:

Voluntary organisations and clubs can have licences for a maximum of 56 days in any 12 month period.

How to apply

Complete the occasional licence application form and send it to the address on the form. You should apply at least 28 days before the event you need the licence for.

 

Application fee

The fee to apply for an occasional licence is £10. You can send a cheque with your application or you can call 01387 245923 to pay by debit or credit card.

After you apply

We consider all applications in line with local licensing policies and principles. We also consult with Police Scotland and publish licensing notices so interested parties can submit objections or representations within the permitted timescales.

Dumfries and Galloway Licensing Board will consider any applications subject to an objection or for licensing hours outside our licensing policy statement.

 

If an application is granted we'll send the licence shortly after.
