Apply for or renew a personal licence to sell alcohol
A personal licence allows the holder to supervise or authorise the sale of alcohol from a licensed premises. Applicants must be 18 or older and have a licensing qualification from an accredited trainer.

Personal licences are valid for ten years unless they are revoked earlier. Refresher training must be taken every five years.
You'll need a personal licence if you want to be a designated premises manager. You can only be the designated premises manager for one licensed premises.
How to apply for or renew a licence
Complete the personal licence application form and send it to the address on the form, along with the required documents.
Application fee
The personal licence application fee is £50. You can send a cheque with your application or we can call you to take payment by debit or credit card when we have checked your application.

After you apply
We consider all applications in line with the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005. A copy of the application is sent to Police Scotland to check for relevant convictions or foreign convictions and if there are any the application will be considered by the licensing board.
If an application is granted we'll send the licence shortly after.
Mandatory refresher training
All personal licence holders must have refresher training every five years.

Within five years of the original licence grant, licence holders must complete accredited personal licence refresher training.
Within five years and three months of the original licence grant, evidence of taking the refresher training must be sent to the licensing office with a training completion form and training certificate.
A personal licence holder who does not complete the training or send us proof will have their personal licence revoked, without discretion, hearing or appeal.
