Apply to transfer a premises licence to sell alcohol
A premises licence holder can apply to transfer a premises licence to another person, partnership or company. It's a criminal offence to sell alcohol without the relevant licence.
Someone else can also apply for a transfer if:
- an individual premises licence holder dies or becomes incapable
- a partnership or a company premises licence holder is dissolved
- the premises licence holder becomes insolvent
- the business is transferred to another person
You can also request a variation of the licence as part of the application to transfer the licence. For example, if the premises is being sold, the new owner may want to change the details of the operating plan of the premises licence.
How to apply
You must send us the relevant completed application form within 28 days of the event that made the transfer necessary.
Application fee
The fee to transfer a licence is £120.

After you apply
We consider all applications in line with the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005. A copy of the application is sent to Police Scotland to check for relevant convictions or foreign convictions. If there are any the application will be considered by the licensing board.
If a transfer application is granted we'll send the licence shortly after, or at a later date if requested by the applicant.
