About the Licensing Board
The Licensing Board considers applications and reviews for alcohol and gambling licences, including:
- new premises licences
- major variations
Not every application needs to go to the Licensing Board meeting. The Board can delegate some straightforward decisions to members of the council's Licensing Team.
The means licensing officers can deal with certain applications on behalf of the Board without hearing from Councillors. This can include:
- occasional licences
- extended hours
- transfers of premise licences
- minor variations
- personal licence applications where there are no objections or adverse comments from the public
Only applications that are more significant, contested or cannot be dealt with under the Licensing Team are considered by the Licensing Board.
The Board is made up of ten Councillors and is a separate legal entity to the council.
Board meetings
Licensing Board meetings are where Board members consider applications and other licensing matters that need a decision by the Board.
Meetings are open to the public, but attending a meeting does not automatically mean you can speak about an application.
