Whitesands project update: Phase 1 works under way
Construction is now getting under way across a number of locations as Phase 1 of the Whitesands Flood Protection Scheme progresses.
Early-stage works are currently focused on site preparation, clearance and establishing infrastructure to support the main build.
Site setup continues in the Greensands area, with work at George Street car park to follow, creating a key base for ongoing operations.
At Park Lane, early clearance work is expected to complete in mid-June. This will be followed by piling works beginning in early July – a key stage in constructing the flood defences, where sheet piles are driven deep into the ground to form a protective barrier.
Work will also expand to additional areas in the coming weeks:
- near Loreburn Primary School, site clearance is planned for late June ahead of further works
- around the Rowing Club, mobilisation begins in late June, with clearance in early July and piling works continuing through the summer
As work progresses, we will continue to provide updates to keep residents, businesses and visitors informed about what’s happening and what to expect.
