Community feedback helps shape Whitesands Project communications

Residents and businesses recently joined members of the Whitesands Project team at a community engagement event held at the Whitesands Project Information Centre.

The event provided an opportunity for people to learn more about the project, discuss planned works and ask questions directly to members of the project team.

Listening to local views

A wide range of topics were discussed during the session, including project design, access arrangements, traffic management, landscaping and flood protection measures.

Many attendees were keen to understand how construction activities may affect the local area and what the completed project will look like once work is finished.

One of the strongest messages from the event was the importance of clear, regular communication throughout the project. Residents and businesses highlighted the value of receiving timely information and having opportunities to discuss issues and ask questions as work progresses.

Questions about flood protection

Attendees also raised questions about how flood protection measures, including floodgates, will operate once the scheme is complete and how communities will be informed during future flood events.

The project team is continuing to work with partners to develop clear information about operational arrangements, responsibilities and future procedures. Further information will be shared as these arrangements are finalised.

Shaping future communications

Feedback gathered during the event is helping to shape future communication and engagement activity.

As a result, the project team is continuing to develop information and updates on:

  • design proposals
  • traffic management arrangements
  • floodgate operation
  • parking and public facilities
  • access during construction

This will help ensure the information being provided reflects the issues that matter most to local residents, businesses and visitors.

Keeping communities informed

To support ongoing engagement, the Whitesands Project Information Centre has been established alongside a programme of regular updates through newsletters, stakeholder meetings and digital communications.

These channels will help ensure people continue to receive accurate and up-to-date information as the project moves forward.

The project team would like to thank everyone who attended the event and shared their views. Community feedback continues to play an important role in helping shape project communications and ensuring local concerns are understood and considered as the project progresses.
