Community feedback helps keep Loreburn Bridge open for longer
Residents, businesses and visitors will be able to continue using Loreburn Bridge for most of the Greensands construction programme following a review of construction plans by the Whitesands Project Team.
The revised approach means Loreburn Bridge is now expected to remain open throughout the majority of Phase 1 works, with a closure currently anticipated for a maximum of around four weeks in early 2027 rather than for the full construction period.
Responding to community feedback
The decision follows feedback received through recent engagement activities, where maintaining access across the town centre was identified as an important issue for residents, businesses and visitors.
Following further assessment of the construction programme and site arrangements, the project team identified a safe way to maintain access while allowing work to continue.
Supporting access during construction
To enable the bridge to remain open, a range of additional safety measures have been incorporated into the construction arrangements.
These include:
- protective barriers
- segregated work areas
- clear signage and wayfinding
- ongoing monitoring of access arrangements throughout the works
These measures will help ensure people can continue to move safely through the area while construction activities are taking place nearby.
Reducing disruption
Keeping Loreburn Bridge open during most of the Greensands construction period will significantly reduce disruption and help maintain connections between key parts of the town centre.
The revised arrangement demonstrates the project's ongoing commitment to reviewing how work is delivered and identifying opportunities to reduce impacts on residents, businesses and visitors wherever it is safe and practical to do so.

The project team will continue to provide updates on construction activities, access arrangements and project milestones through the Whitesands Project Information Centre, project newsletters and the Whitesands Project webpages.
