Her Voice, Her Choice: supporting young women and girls

Dumfries and Galloways Young Women’s Network will allocate funding of £28,000 to support youth-led projects, events and initiatives for young women and girls aged 12 to 25 across Dumfries and Galloway – open now.

Examples of projects that can be funded through Her Voice, Her Choice

Examples of projects could include:

  • activities, projects or one-off events that improve wellbeing, confidence or resilience
  • opportunities for young women and girls to develop skills, leadership or employability skills
  • safe spaces, creative projects or community events
  • campaigns or initiatives that address inequality or barriers faced by young women

Projects must be delivered before January 2027.

Examples of what cannot be funded

This includes:

  • activity not targeted at young women and girls aged 12 to 25
  • projects that do not align with any of the five strategy themes
  • retrospective costs
  • core organisational running costs not directly linked to the project for example general staff salaries, venue hire where the organisation has its own premises, utility bills, general office costs, organisational subscriptions or memberships, IT systems or software licenses, fundraising costs, financial reserves

Applications from organisations, groups, schools or statutory bodies

Applications will be accepted from statutory bodies, schools, constituted organisations or applications made by individuals or groups who are supported by a constituted organisation that will be accountable for funds. 

New or existing groups, including those with little or no previous funding experience are also invited to apply.

Services should be based in, or delivering activity within, Dumfries and Galloway.

Organisations applying for grants must have:

  • a child protection policy and relevant Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) for all staff and volunteers
  • its own bank account (individuals may apply if they are supported by an organisation who can be accountable for funds) and funds will be paid to the organisation

To meet audit requirements all groups benefiting from funding will need to agree to provide invoices and receipts for all purchases and comply with monitoring and evaluation reporting at the end of the project.
