Get a secondary school place

Children normally transfer to their catchment area secondary school between age 11 and 12. In late September/October of Primary 7 pupils along with parents and carers will complete enrolment paperwork identifying their chosen Secondary School. Once places have been allocated pupils, parents and carers will be notified and transition activity with their identified Secondary School will begin in January of Primary 7.

How to apply

Our schools cover areas known as catchment areas. You can apply to any school but children living in the catchment area get priority when places are allocated. Your child's school should explain how to apply when the time comes to start the transfer process. Parents must complete paperwork and return this to their child's primary school to apply for a secondary school place, whether their choice is for a catchment or non-catchment school.

Apply to your catchment school

Find your catchment area school

Return a completed application form to your child’s primary school. If you wish to apply for St Joseph’s College as a catchment pupil you must provide evidence of Roman Catholic Baptismal Certificate.

Apply to a non-catchment school

If you want to apply for a place at a non-catchment school you must apply at your child's primary school. If you apply to a non-catchment school but do not get a place, you may not get a place at your catchment school.

Find a secondary school

Return a completed application form to your child’s primary school.

How to change school if you change your address

If you change your address and wish to move your child to another school, you should contact the new school. The school will help you apply for the change, if a place is available.

How to appeal a school place decision

We'll send you a letter to let you know if we cannot give your child a place at the school you applied for. This letter will explain how you can appeal our decision. You can appeal within 28 days of getting the letter.
