Public notice. The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015. Notice of consultation on the potential disposal of common good property.
Kirkcudbright Common Good Sub Committee are considering the disposal of 1260 sq m of land at Low Boreland Kirkcudbright.
An 8-week consultation period from 28 March 2024 to 23 May 2024 will take place. We are inviting representations from Community Councils, Community Bodies, and members of the public on this proposal.
Any representations should be clearly headed Disposal of land at Low Boreland, Kirkcudbright and handed into the Customer Service Centre, Daar Rd, Kirkcudbright or by email to [email protected]
The representations received raised concerns about selling the Common Good land at Low Boreland, highlighting that the area is valued as a local amenity, is regularly used by residents, and should be treated fairly and transparently.
Respondents also questioned why valuation information was not available, stressed the need for openness in the decision‑making process and asked the council to ensure consistency with past decisions.
Some also suggested that the council should fully explore alternative options - including planning potential and different configurations of the land - to make sure the community achieves best value before any disposal is considered.
