The Dumfries and Galloway Public Protection Partnership is proud to announce the return of its annual Public Protection Week, running from 24 to 28 February 2025. Now in its fifth year, the event aims to foster compassionate communities by encouraging collaboration, raising awareness and empowering individuals to play an active role in keeping their communities safe.
Dumfries and Galloway has deep Gaelic connections, reflected in its place names, culture and history. Many names, such as Kirkcudbright (Cille Chuithbeirt), and particularly those within Galloway (Gall-Ghàidhealaibh), have Gaelic origins, showing the language’s lasting presence in our region.
The Solway Coast and Marine Project (SCAMP) is encouraging people of all ages to explore the coast this half term, as the ‘Wild Winter’ programme of events kicks off in Stranraer next week.
Dumfries and Galloway Council’s three-year funding gap has risen to £34.32M. The council’s Enabling and Customer Services Committee will receive an update on Tuesday 11 February on the council’s budget position and financial projections for the next three years.
