The displays form part of the Communities Connected Project, supported through the Pride in Place Programme, and have now been installed across the library.

The screens provide a modern way to share local information, promote community activity and showcase material from Dumfries and Galloway’s library and archive collections.

Two of the screens, located in the lending library and Cyber Centre, will be used to promote community activities, local services, public initiatives and seasonal events taking place across Dumfries.

A third screen, located in the library entrance, will focus on heritage content, including digital exhibitions, films, photographs and presentations drawn from library and archive collections.

Local community groups will also be invited to submit digital posters and information about events and activities for consideration for the two community display screens.

Kenny Bowie, Chair, Dumfries Town board said:

“This has been a fantastic opportunity for the Pride in Place plan to extend local services to the wider public and make community led information easily available.”

Tom Mcaughtrie, Board Member of Dumfries Town Board, said:

“This is the first project by a town board in Scotland and North of England ready to run. Thanks to funding from British government Pride in Place funding”.

Councillor John Campbell, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Enabling and Customer Services Committee, said:

“This is a simple, practical improvement that will make a real difference to how information is shared in the library. I’m very pleased that Dumfries Town Board has supported the project and helped us bring these new displays into Ewart Library.

“It’s particularly good that local groups will be able to use them to promote what’s happening in the community, alongside the heritage material that the library already does such a good job of looking after and sharing.”

Councillor Ben Dashper, Vice-Chair of the Enabling and Customer Services Committee, said:

“Libraries are constantly evolving in how they connect people with information, and these displays are a good example of using digital technology in a straightforward and useful way.

“They’ll give community organisations another way to reach people, while also creating new opportunities to showcase the stories, collections and heritage held at Ewart Library.”
