New Convener Elected at Special Full Council Meeting

Councillors elect new Convener/Depute Leader (Civic Head) following Councillor Katie Hagmann’s resignation.

Dumfries and Galloway Council met today (Monday 1 June) to elect a new Convener/Depute Leader (Civic Head).

Councillors agreed to elect Councillor Tracey Little to the role.

The special meeting of Full Council was called following Councillor Katie Hagmann’s resignation as Convener of the council.

Cllr Hagmann resigned after being elected MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley at the Scottish Parliament Election last month.

She will continue to fulfil her duties as a ward councillor until the Scottish Local Government elections on 6 May 2027.

As Convener/Depute Leader (Civic Head), Cllr Little will chair Full Council and deputise for the Leader when required. In the Civic Head part of the role, Cllr Little will also represent the council at corporate civic and ceremonial events across Dumfries and Galloway.

Cllr Tracey Little will continue to fulfil her existing roles of Dumfries Provost and Chair or the council’s Education, Skills and Community Wellbeing Committee.

Dumfries and Galloway Council Depute Convener (Leader), Councillor Stephen Thompson, said:

Newly elected Convener/Depute Leader (Civic Head), Councillor Tracey Little, said:

“As Convener, I will do my best to support the conduct of council business in a fair and respectful way.
