On 5 March, Dumfries and Galloway Licensing Board agreed a general extension of licensed hours for eligible premises during Scotland matches in the tournament.

This means that on-sales premises which:

  • hold a full premises licence, and
  • have an operating plan that includes provision for showing televised sport

may remain open until 30 minutes after the end of any Scotland fixture during World Cup 2026.

Licence holders have been contacted by the Licensing Board and asked to confirm whether they intend to make use of the extension.

Premises have also been reminded to ensure that suitable management arrangements are in place and, where appropriate, that additional stewarding is considered.

Any premises wishing to extend their hours to show other World Cup matches must submit an extended hours application to the Licensing Board by 14 April.

Licence holders have been contacted directly by the Licensing Board about the extension. Information on alcohol licensing and extended hours is available here: Licences and permits | Dumfries and Galloway Council
