The draft plan sets out how the council proposes to support and promote Gaelic over the next five years. Its commitments include raising awareness of the region’s Gaelic heritage and place names, supporting Gaelic learning opportunities and developing the use of Gaelic across council services and communities.

The plan builds on progress made over the past five years, including Gaelic learning opportunities, activity in schools and libraries, Gaelic content at cultural events and the development of a Gaelic place-names map.

Feedback received through the consultation will help shape the final version of the plan before it is submitted for approval under the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005.

The consultation is open until 31 December.
