The decision was made at a meeting of the Employment and Appeals Sub‑Committee yesterday (Thursday 30 April).
Alan has been fulfilling the role on an interim basis and takes up the permanent post with immediate effect.
The post includes strategic and operational leadership across a wide range of key council services, including Facilities, Waste and Recycling, Catering, Cleaning and Neighbourhood Services.
Alan has held a number of senior management roles within the council, including Senior Manager of Facilities Services, where he led large teams across Dumfries and Galloway.
Prior to joining the council, Alan worked in the private sector and was also self‑employed. This experience has shaped a practical leadership approach focussed on service quality.
