DJR Sport Ltd, operator of the Solway Sharks senior ice hockey team, has defaulted on an agreed payment plan and owes the council just over £65,000.
We have shown considerable patience over an extended period. We have agreed to revised payments and made repeated efforts to resolve the matter.
Despite giving assurances, the company has again failed to meet agreed commitments, which represents a material breach of contract.
As the remaining balance was not paid by the Friday 24 April 2026 deadline, we took the decision this week to pursue recovery of the debt in court.
We will not be entering into any agreement with DJR Sport Ltd for ice hockey in future years. Other than agreeing uplift of equipment, the company will have no further access to the council’s Dumfries Ice Bowl facility.
Although we are proud to support local sport across the region, we have a clear responsibility to safeguard public funds. That duty must take precedence here.
The council has made it clear to DJR Sport Ltd over a period of time that it is the company’s responsibility to ensure its customers are not misinformed in relation to its commercial arrangements.
We are not involved in, and are not a party to, any agreements entered into by the company with third parties.
Anyone who has made payments to DJR Sport Ltd in relation to future seasons should raise those matters directly with the company.
The council will not be commenting further at this time.
