The update was considered by the Enabling and Customer Services Committee (Tuesday 10 February) and covers buying and contracting activity between 1 October and 31 December 2025.
During the reporting period, council procurement activity totalled around £73.8 million, with more than £17.6 million spent directly within the local economy, supporting businesses across Dumfries and Galloway.
The report outlines how procurement activity continues to contribute to a wide range of outcomes, including investment in infrastructure and transport, education and early learning, health and wellbeing and energy efficiency, while ensuring value for public money.
It also highlights ongoing work to strengthen supplier engagement, including preparations for future Dumfries and Galloway Meet the Buyer events, which provide opportunities for local businesses to connect with council buyers and better understand upcoming contract opportunities.
Councillor John Campbell, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Enabling and Customer Services Committee, said:
“Our procurement activity plays an important role in supporting local businesses while ensuring essential services are delivered effectively. This update shows how council spending continues to have a positive impact across Dumfries and Galloway, while being managed responsibly and transparently.”
Councillor Ben Dashper, Vice-Chair, said:
“Supporting the local economy is a key part of how we approach procurement.
“Through supplier engagement and initiatives such as Meet the Buyer events, we want to ensure local businesses have the opportunity to engage with the council and benefit from public sector investment.”
The report also confirms that work is underway to review and update the council’s Procurement Strategy, with a revised strategy expected to be presented to Enabling and Customer Services Committee later in 2026.
Regular reporting will continue to provide oversight of procurement and commissioning activity and its contribution to the council’s wider economic and community priorities.
