Since the launch of the Community Resilience Recognition Scheme in May 2025, more than 50 community groups have achieved Bronze, Silver or Gold recognition for their work in building resilience and strengthening local preparedness.
The scheme was introduced to recognise and support community resilience groups by providing a framework to help them develop their capabilities, strengthen local partnerships and enhance their ability to support residents during times of need.
Four groups have now achieved the scheme's highest accolade, Gold Level Recognition:
- St John's Town of Dalry Community Resilience Group
- The Cairn Resilience and Welfare Group
- Eskdalemuir Hub
- Corsock and Kirkpatrick Durham Community Resilience Group
Their achievements reflect the dedication, hard work and commitment shown by local volunteers in developing strong community resilience arrangements and supporting the people who live and work in their areas.
Tracy Little, Chair of Education, Skills and Community Wellbeing Committee said:
"These awards are about shining a light on the quiet, determined efforts that often go unseen. Community resilience is built from the ground up, and today we’re proud to honour those who lead by example."
George Jaimeson, Vice-Chair of the committee said:
“These awards remind us that resilience isn’t just about responding to emergencies but it’s about the everyday acts of kindness, leadership, and connection that strengthen our communities year-round.”
While four groups have achieved Gold recognition, the success of the scheme is reflected in the participation of communities across the region. Every group achieving Bronze, Silver or Gold status is helping to strengthen local resilience and improve preparedness in a way that reflects local circumstances and priorities.
The continued growth of the Community Resilience Recognition Scheme highlights the important role community groups play in supporting residents and building stronger, more resilient communities for the future.
