What's That Stat? £1.5 Million a Year

This is the estimated value added to the region each and every year by volunteers who help the council.

The council supports more than 800 volunteers who help deliver and enhance services such as youth work, community resilience, active communities, archives, museums and community councils.

There are 14 volunteers supporting the countryside rangers alone. Eddie Webb is volunteering at the Beattock boardwalk and says:

"As well as being great for your wellbeing, volunteering helps me to support access to the sights and sounds of the countryside that I've so enjoyed."

People volunteer for many reasons – to give back, to connect, to learn, to grow and to be part of something that matters.

People as young as 12 can volunteer with the Youth Work team.

Many much-loved events in the region would not be the same without the help of volunteers, such as the Youth Beatz festival.

Dumfries and Galloway is the first full council to be awarded the prestigious Investing in Volunteers award (IiV).

Thank you to all those who freely give time to their communities through council volunteering. Your contribution is valued by all of us.
