Supporting Staff, Protecting Services

Dumfries and Galloway Council has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to supporting employees through service change, as part of a new redeployment policy. The council also confirmed its existing position of no compulsory redundancy will remain in place – reaffirming a long-standing commitment, originally made in 2015.

At the Enabling and Customer Services Committee on Tuesday 17 June, elected members agreed to the importance of cost-effectiveness, transferable skills and long-term workforce planning. The approach to manage workforce change is designed to support staff through change, retain expertise and provide reassurance for a stable, skilled workforce that ensures continuity of services for local communities.

Councillor John Campbell, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council's Enabling and Customer Services Committee, said:

“This is about providing reassurances to council staff that change doesn’t have to mean uncertainty. Our council’s redeployment policy allows us to manage change with care and respect for the people who deliver services to our region’s communities – while making sure we retain valuable skills within the council.”

Councillor Ben Dashper, Vice Chair, added:

“We’re clear that the council must continue to evolve to meet future challenges. But we also want to do that in a way that supports our workforce, plans ahead and stays true to our commitment to be a fair and flexible employer. Our approach is built on the principle that all council staff feel supported when change affects their role.”
