In Quarter 2 of the 2025/26 financial year, the council spent over £77 million on goods, services and works. Of that, £18.5 million – nearly a quarter – went directly to businesses based in Dumfries and Galloway.

Councillor John Campbell, Chair of the Enabling and Customer Services Committee, said:

“We’re committed to making it easier for local firms to do business with the council. We know the challenges that small and rural businesses face, and we’re working hard to open up more opportunities for them to bid and succeed.”

The report also shows that 97.2% of spend over £20,000 was on-contract – exceeding the council’s 95% target – and over 80 community benefit initiatives were delivered through procurement, bringing added value to local communities.

Vice-Chair Councillor Ben Dashper added:

“Procurement is one of the key ways we can support our local economy. Every contract is a chance to invest in our region – not just in services, but in jobs, skills and community outcomes.”

The council continues to work with the Supplier Development Programme and local partners to grow the supplier base and ensure more Dumfries and Galloway businesses are ready to compete.

The Quarter 2 Procurement Update will be considered by the Enabling and Customer Services Committee on Tuesday 18 November.
