Challenge Poverty Week 2025: Region-Wide Food Drive to Support Local Foodbanks

As part of Challenge Poverty Week 2025, Dumfries and Galloway Council is encouraging residents to support their local foodbanks by taking part in a region-wide food drive from Monday 6 to Sunday 12 October.

Throughout the week, members of the public are invited to donate non-perishable food items and essential household goods at any of the designated collection points across the region. Every contribution helps support individuals and families facing hardship in our communities.

Where to Donate

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

  • Annan Customer Services – Town Hall, High Street, Annan DG12 6AQ.
  • Castle Douglas Customer Services – Market Hill, King Street, Castle Douglas DG7 1AE.
  • Ewart Library, Dumfries – Catherine Street, Dumfries DG1 1JB.
  • Kirkcudbright Customer Services – Daar Road Offices, Kirkcudbright DG6 4PJ.
  • Lockerbie Library – 31–33 High Street, Lockerbie DG11 2JL.
  • Newton Stewart Customer Services – Church Street, Newton Stewart DG8 6ER.
  • Robert Burns Film Theatre – Mill Road, Dumfries DG2 7BE.
  • Sanquhar Customer Services – 100 High Street, Sanquhar DG4 6DZ.
  • Stranraer Customer Services – North Strand Street, Stranraer DG9 7LD.

What to Donate

Suggested items include:

  • Food and Drink: Tinned food, pasta, rice, cereals, soup, jam, sauces, dried herbs, spices, biscuits, sweets, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, UHT milk, bottles, crisps/snacks and cans of juice
  • Household and Toiletries: Washing up liquid, laundry pods, nappies and baby wipes.

This initiative is part of a wider effort to combat poverty and support vulnerable individuals across Dumfries and Galloway. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference.
