Those who sign up after 31 January will have their collections start six weeks after registration.

Over 3,200 residents rated the service 4.6 out of 5, praising its convenience, cost-effectiveness and environmental benefits.

Feedback from 2025 subscribers highlights the real-life benefits:

  • “It saves me having a large compost heap in the garden. You can keep up to date with grass cutting, pruning and disposal of annual plants.”
  • “Less car trips to the recycling centre which is about 12 miles from home, saving me time and money and lowering my carbon footprint.”
  • “Being able to dispose of my garden waste quickly and cleanly, and not having to ask for help to take it to the recycling centre.”
  • “A real life saver. We’re elderly and would not cope at all easily without it. £40 is good value for this extra service over some 16 collections. It saves us many single journeys, and should be promoted strongly to encourage more subscribers.”

Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Andy Ferguson, said:

“It’s fantastic to see so many residents making use of our kerbside garden waste collection service. The increase of 750 tonnes in garden waste our council has collected and the positive environmental impact show that small changes can make a big difference. I encourage everyone to apply early for next years’ service and help us build on this success.”

Vice-Chair of the committee, Councillor Tony Berretti, added:

“By signing up, you’re helping to keep garden waste out of general waste bins, ensuring it can be properly composted and recycled. This reduces contamination, supports the production of peat-free compost and helps the region move towards a more sustainable, circular economy.”
