We take a look back at the amazing staff featured in the A-to-Z of Dumfries and Galloway Council.

There’s Gail, the Harbour Assistant for Stranraer Harbour, who helps keep harbour-users safe and on the move.

We met Brian, the Supervisor for Horticulture, as he went about keeping our open spaces beautiful for all.

We encountered Stacey, one of our environmental health officers, as she made sure our food was safe.

Mark inspired his Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics students, while Andrew the Archaeologist helped us preserve and protect our precious heritage.

We saluted Haylie the Youth Worker, as she made a difference to young people in Upper Nithsdale.

And what about that machine that Ruairi used to maintain the ice at the Ice Bowl?

We shared their stories and many others over the past year. We learnt about how they make Dumfries and Galloway a wonderful place to live.

Our A-to-Z workers have some unusual and some important jobs to do. You might not have realised their jobs existed at all. We thank them for their dedication and enthusiasm.

These workers are just some of the talented and committed team that we are proud to have as part of our team at Dumfries and Galloway Council.

And we’d like to thank each and every one of our team who volunteered to take part in the campaign and share a bit about who they are and what they do. We salute you.

However, as 2024 draws to a close, we’re afraid we’ve run out of letters.

What to do?

Well, we’ve got more stories to tell. More Marks, more Haylies, more Staceys.

In 2025, we will be telling you about the amazing facts and figures that guide our colleagues’ work. Day in day out, year in year out – and those unexpected numbers that you just never knew about.

You will be asking us ‘What’s that Stat?’
