Nominate a Community Resilience Group
We want to recognise the Community Resilience Groups (CRGs) and the individuals who volunteer their time to help their communities be more resilient.
Over the years various events – severe weather, global pandemic – have seen local communities respond with concern for people at the core, demonstrating community spirit through good-neighbour resilience activities.
Nominating a Community Resilience Group
Groups can be nominated for recognition by the Community Resilience Team, Ward Officer or self-nominate.
The individual nominating the group must complete the essential criteria questions and then decide which tier is most applicable to the CRG and complete the self-assessment, answering yes or no to each statement.

Once the individual nominating the CRG has completed the nomination, the completed criteria form and most up to date version of the group’s plan should be sent to us for assessment:

A member of the Community Resilience Team will then check the information and confirm the award level.
How we will let groups know what award they have won
Once the award level is confirmed, a member of the Community Resilience Team will get in touch with the individual who nominated the CRG and the CRG itself to confirm they have been recognised with an award and which tier it is.
Types of award
There are three tiers of recognition.
Bronze
Criteria:
- Does the CRG have a Community Resilience Plan and update it annually?
- Does the CRG promote and develop community resilience within their boundary and uphold a ‘good-neighbour’ ethos of encouraging local preparedness?
- Does the CRG maintain positive relations with our Community Resilience Officers?
- Has the CRG supported the emergency and essential services to warn and inform members of their community to help as many as possible to make well informed decisions that keep people safe? – for example, signing up to receive Met Office, Travel Warnings and SEPA weather and flood warning messages
- Has the CRG self-nominated or been nominated by the Community Resilience Team for bronze status?
Award:
Bronze status groups will receive an electronic award and logos to display on their website.
Silver
Criteria:
- Has the CRG previously held bronze status, or do they meet bronze status criteria?
- Has the CRG encouraged residents to complete a Household Emergency Lifesaving Plan?
- Has CRG members explored training opportunities through Ready Scotland resources? For example, the emergency management – Ready Scotland
- Has the CRG signed an agreement of upkeep with the relevant council department, on equipment provided by the council and attended any necessary training relevant to the use and maintenance of the equipment? For example, a hand gritter from DGC Roads
- Has the CRG logged time dedicated to community resilience activities (for example, plan updates, contacting Community Resilience Officer)?
- Has the CRG self-nominated or been nominated by Ward Officer or a Community Resilience Team for Silver status?
Award:
Silver level groups will be presented with a framed certificate and logos to display on their website.
Gold
Criteria:
- Has the CRG previously held silver status, or do they meet silver status criteria?
- Has the CRG been given the opportunity and encouraged to attend annual scenario-based training opportunities recognised by the council (online or in person)?
- Has the CRG shown a commitment to proactively advocating for and supporting the local development of community resilience capacity and capability?
- Has the CRG self-nominated or been nominated by Elected Members, Ward Officer, Community Resilience Team for Gold status?
Award:
Gold level groups will be presented with a framed certificate and logos to display on their website. They will also be given the option to tour the Council Emergency Centre.
