Digital and ICT Strategy

Our Digital and ICT Strategy 2026 to 2031 sets out how we will use technology, digital services and data to improve council services.

The strategy builds on our previous digital strategy. It reflects what people expect from modern public services and supports national digital priorities.

It also links closely with our Customer Strategy and People Strategy. Together, these strategies will help us improve customer experience, support our workforce and deliver better services.

Our aim

We want to provide digital services that are safe, inclusive and easy to use.

By making services simpler and more accessible, we will help people access the support and information they need.

We will use digital technology and data to:

  • improve the experience of residents, communities and businesses
  • support better decisions through reliable data and insight
  • deliver services that are efficient, sustainable and provide value for money

Our long-term ambition is to build a digitally confident council and region where technology helps improve lives and strengthen communities.

Our priorities

We will focus on 3 priority areas.

Improve customer experience

We will:

  • design services that are simple, accessible and easy to use
  • provide a more consistent experience across our digital channels
  • help people access services when and where they need them

Use reliable data and insight

We will:

  • improve the quality and availability of data
  • use evidence and insight to support decision making
  • take a more joined-up approach to information across the council

Make services more efficient

We will:

  • use digital tools to simplify and improve processes
  • make better use of resources and identify opportunities to save money
  • use modern technology, including cloud-based services, where it supports better outcomes

Delivering the strategy

We will deliver the strategy through a clear action plan.

Strong governance arrangements and regular reporting to elected members will help us monitor progress and ensure we achieve our objectives.

We will regularly review our plans and update them when priorities, technology or opportunities change.
