The council is represented by 43 councillors who are elected every 5 years:
- the last council election was held on 5 May 2022
- the next council election will be in May 2027

Although no one political party has overall control, the administration is formed by the Scottish National Party Group.

What councillors do
Councillors:
- make policy decisions
- make financial decisions, including setting yearly Council Tax rates
- decide how the council should be run

Local wards
