Overview

The Whitesands Flood Protection Scheme is a major investment in the future of Dumfries. As well as delivering essential flood protection, the project will revitalise the River Nith waterfront through improved landscaping, pathways, lighting, seating and play areas.

With support from the Scottish Government, this stage of the project focuses on creating a vibrant, inclusive riverside space. We’re particularly keen to hear views on Greensands, Upper Whitesands and Dock Park – how people use these areas, what draws them in, and what would encourage them to return.

Have your say

We’re holding two drop-in engagement sessions at the Standard Building, High Street, Dumfries:

  • Tuesday 2 September – 12pm to 7pm
  • Wednesday 3 September – 9.30am to 3.30pm

These sessions are open to everyone and offer a chance to help shape how the riverfront should look, feel and function.

How to take part

If you can’t attend in person, you’ll be able to share your views via our online Whitesands Project survey.

Part of the survey asks about improvements to public spaces at Greensands, Upper Whitesands and Dock Park. You may find it easier to view a map of these areas separately before answering the survey.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts and working together to create a riverfront that meets the needs of our community – now and in the future.
