Help improve walking, wheeling and cycling in your area

We are inviting community groups, charities, social enterprises and individuals to help make it easier to walk, wheel and cycle in Dumfries and Galloway. This is part of the Active Travel Accessibility Links Programme (2026 to 2027) led by SWestrans.

Overview

We want to work with local communities to:

  • understand barriers to active travel
  • identify opportunities for improvement
  • develop practical plans for change

This will help make everyday journeys safer, easier and more accessible for everyone.

Become an anchor organisation

We are looking for organisations or individuals to act as an anchor organisation in their local area.

As an anchor organisation, you will:

  • work with your community and a specialist consultant
  • review existing active travel information
  • support local engagement activities
  • help identify barriers and solutions
  • contribute to an improvement plan for your area

You do not need to be an expert in transport. We are looking for local knowledge and community connections.

  • Annan
  • Eastriggs
  • Lochmaben
  • Newton Stewart

Who can apply

You can apply if you are:

  • a community group
  • a charity or voluntary organisation
  • a social enterprise
  • an individual with strong links to your community

The deadline for applications is:

13 July 2026 at 5pm.

What happens next

After the closing date:

  • applications will be reviewed
  • selected anchor organisations will be contacted
  • successful applicants will begin work with a specialist consultant
