Overview

Bus services play an important role in connecting people to employment, education, healthcare, shops, services and social opportunities.

Dumfries and Galloway Council, in partnership with SWestrans, is undertaking a comprehensive review of the region's bus network. The project will examine how bus services have changed in recent years, identify gaps in provision and explore options for improving connectivity across the region.

Whether you use the bus regularly, occasionally or not at all, we would welcome your views.

We want to understand your experiences of local bus services and your priorities for the future so that recommendations are based on the needs of communities across Dumfries and Galloway.

Your feedback will help inform:

  • recommendations for the future development of the bus network
  • future decisions on supported and local bus services
  • the evidence base used to assess transport needs across the region

What we will do

We will:

  • review current and historic bus services across Dumfries and Galloway
  • identify areas where access to bus services has changed or reduced
  • assess travel needs and travel patterns across the region
  • engage with residents, businesses, operators and stakeholders
  • explore future delivery models for bus services
  • identify opportunities to improve accessibility, connectivity and value for money
  • publish updates and information throughout the project.

What to do now

You can take part by:

  • completing our online survey
  • sharing your experiences of local bus services
  • telling us about gaps in provision and barriers to travel
  • suggesting ways bus services could better connect people to employment, education, healthcare and community facilities.

Complete the survey

This survey will close at 11pm on Friday 9 October 2026.

Feedback gathered through this engagement will be considered alongside transport data and technical analysis. The findings will be used to develop recommendations on the future of bus services in Dumfries and Galloway.

A report setting out the findings of the review and proposed next steps will be presented to the Economy and Infrastructure Committee.

Your input will help shape the future development of the bus network across Dumfries and Galloway.
